Overview

SPM-VFDHP is a high-power 3 phase inverter stack designed with flexibility and reliability in mind. It can be ordered with either SiC or IGBT switches based on application switching frequency requirements. Furthermore, a safe and easy method for connection and disconnection of the power terminals is provided with the help of lever-actuated spring cage terminal blocks. Additionally, this 3 phase inverter stack is equipped with a directly pluggable gate driver module which has test points and LEDs providing instant visual feedback during run-time and fault conditions. In addition, isolation optocouplers have been used for better EMI immunity and handling of high dv/dt spikes, making it suitable for applications having excessive noise such as motor drives and meeting the challenges of high-speed switching with SiC FETs. The inverter built-in protection features include short circuit protection, over temperature protection & serviceable Varistor based over voltage protection, additionally, overload protection can be achieved using a standard 63A circuit breaker.Also, the system reliability and MTBF is also greatly enhanced by using 900V DC-Link film capacitors which can handle high currents, high temperatures and even higher than rated voltages without failure or degradation. Thus, providing you with dependable operation during service lifetime.

Optional SiC/IGBT Switches

The inverter can be factory configured with either SiC or IGBT switches. High frequency applications, such as, solar PV inverters and active rectifiers are more likely to use SiC switches. Whereas, motor drive applications can suffice with low switching frequency IGBT switches. Consequently, making this inverter stack a good fit for a wide variety of power electronics applications.

Film Capacitor Based DC-Link

The SPM-VFDHP uses Metallized Polypropylene Film capacitors in the DC Link. These capacitors are 900V, 105oC ambient temperature rated and provide a very high MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) of more than 400,000 Hrs @ 50C ambient temperature. Unlike electrolytic capacitors, film capacitors can also sustain very high RMS current, as well as, more than 1.4 times the rated voltage without failure or degradation.

Advanced Protections

The inverter built-in protection features include short circuit protection, over temperature protection & serviceable Varistor based over voltage protection, additionally, overload protection can be achieved using a standard 63A circuit breaker.

Isolated Inputs/Outputs

All inverter logic inputs and outputs are galvanically isolated with factory configured low or high impedance optocouplers, thus, greatly enhancing EMI immunity of the signals and providing robust insulation between the controller and inverter to avoid false triggering due to common mode noise.

Pluggable Gate Driver Module

VFDHP is assembled with a directly pluggable 6 channel gate driver board optimized for the switches used in the inverter. Furthermore, the driver board has LEDs for indicating inputs, faults and disable signals, as well as, test points. Pluggable nature of the gate driver also provides flexibility for upgrades, as well as, easy maintenance during the life time of the inverter.

Lever Actuated Spring Cage Connectors

Screwless connection is possible with the help of a lever-operated spring cage connector for inputs and outputs of the inverter, therefore, insuring safe and reliable high power connections and disconnections without additional tools.
